This article lists the top 10 rarest Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs according to Rarity.Tools and breaks down their traits, rarity, and recent sale prices.
Bored Ape Yacht Club launched in April 2021 for a mint price (pre-sale price) of .08 ETH or $200 at the time. It took four months for the project to blow up and reach an average sale price of $89,602 in August 2021.
If you are curious why Bored Ape Yacht Club blew up, I wrote about it in detail here.
Plenty of celebrities have purchased Bored Apes and there’s a possibility we could see the NFTs make an appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show because Eminem and Snoop Dogg (both are performing at the show) are Bored Ape owners.
More and more eyes are going to be on this project and its eye-popping sales and while rarity ranking tools aren’t the end-all-be-all it’s fun to look at the rarest assets in the most popular NFT collection in the world.

How many Bored Apes are there?
There are 10,000 Bored Apes in the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection.
Out of those 10,000 NFTs the below list comprises the top 10 rarest NFTs in the entire collection. BAYC rarity is a fun one to look at since the collection has become popular and iconic since minting in April 2021.

This is the top of the food-chain when it comes to BAYC rarity.
Bored Ape #3953 is the second-rarest Bored Ape asset. It was purchased on 5/1 for 18.88 ETH and is 1 of just 28 Apes with an unshaven beard and pizza in its mouth. It has a few other rare traits, but largely holds this ranking due to the mouth attribute:
Bored Ape #9606 is the 3rd rarest Bored Ape NFT and also has an unshaven beard with pizza out of 28. Pransky minted this ape and it appears to have been transferred a few times, but there is no public sales history on OpenSea.

Rarity and market value are ultimately in the eye of the beholder. Just because an asset has a rare trait, doesn’t mean that trait will be popular in the marketplace, but this does help us as a guide.
Bored Ape Yacht Club has had an incredible run and doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
It will be interesting to see if these top 10 rarest Bored Ape Yacht Clubs sell in the future and for how much money.
PS - this is Bored Ape #1 in the collection, owned by one of the project's creators:
The is Bored Ape #1 in the collection and could be iconic for that fact, but may not ever sell because it is owned by one of the project founders.
